Representation and Litigation
Not every couple can divorce using mediation or the collaborative approach. When that is the case, I act as an advocate for one party. Whether acting as an impartial mediator or as an advocate, I first help my clients clarify what is most important to them in moving forward with life after separation. This prioritization informs their choices concerning important decision points. Next, I work to understand the needs behind the spouse's or partner's positions so that settlement is more likely. When settlement is not possible, I continue to work with my client to balance the costs and benefits at each step of the process. I want the client to understand whether and why each step is necessary. When a court appearance seems inevitable, I aim to support my clients while advocating for their desired result.
